This is Part 2 of the Game Configuration series. Here we cover the Basic Information section β€” the identity of your game config.

Game Name

The Game Name is how this game appears everywhere in GameCP β€” server cards, the game library, dropdown selectors, and the creation wizard.

  • Use the official game title (e.g., "Minecraft" not "MC")
  • Keep it concise but recognizable

Game Group

The Game Group is a lowercase identifier that links related configurations together. For example, if you have separate configs for "Minecraft Java" and "Minecraft Bedrock", you might give them both the game group minecraft.

  • Must be lowercase and URL-safe (e.g., counter-strike-2)
  • Used internally for CDN image paths, grouping, and identification
  • Cannot be changed once game servers have been created using this config

The game group also determines where GameCP looks for banner and icon images on the CDN, so keeping it consistent matters.

Additional Customization

Click Additional Customization to expand the description and image fields.

Description

A brief summary of the game. This appears on game detail pages and in the creation wizard. Markdown is not supported here β€” keep it to a short paragraph.

Category and Tags

  • Category β€” a primary classification (e.g., "Survival", "FPS", "Sandbox"). Used for filtering in the game library.
  • Tags β€” comma-separated keywords (e.g., "multiplayer, open-world, crafting"). Help with search and discovery.

Images

GameCP supports four image types for branding:

ImageRecommended SizeWhere It Appears
Icon256x256px (square)Server cards, game library grid, dropdowns
Banner920x430px (wide)Game list headers, creation wizard
Hero1920x620px (ultrawide)Game detail page background
Logo300x100px (wide)Branding and promotional materials

If you imported from a template, images are usually pre-filled. If you leave images empty, GameCP will try to load images from the CDN based on the game group name.

Tips

  • The Game Group is critical β€” choose it carefully because it can't be changed later
  • You don't need to fill in every image field. The icon is the most important one since it shows on server cards
  • Templates from the store come with all of this pre-configured β€” you only need to customize if you want to override defaults
